AI in Cybersecurity: Threat or Distraction?

AI is changing the threat landscape. That's true. Just not in the way it's often presented.

Attackers use AI mainly to run more attacks in less time. The main attack vectors are the same: phishing and CEO fraud. "Only" the volume increases.

Organisations with MFA, tested offline backups and dual-control on out-of-cycle payment approvals and bank account data changes are well protected against AI-assisted attacks too.
Those who don't have that yet should start there. Not with the big headlines.

The real effect of the AI hype: many leaders hear "AI threats" and think "there's nothing we can do about that anyway."
That's what's actually dangerous. It distracts from what genuinely protects and what is within reach.
